چکیده

The crossed beams reaction of the phenyl radical (C6H5) with 1,2-butadiene (CH3HCCCH2) was studied under single collision at two collision energies. The crossed beams data were combined with electronic structure calculations on the C10H11 potential energy surface. The reaction was found to follow indirect scattering dynamics via an addition of the phenyl radical with its radical center to the sterically favorable C1 atom of the 1,2-butadiene reactant. The initial reaction intermediate decomposed via atomic hydrogen loss to form two C10H10 isomers, 1-phenyl-3-methylallene (p1) and 1-phenyl-butyne-2 (p2), via tight exit transition states. The results are compared with the crossed beams study of phenyl radicals with a second C4H6 isomer, 1,3-butadiene. Published by Elsevier B.V.

A crossed molecular beam study of the phenyl radical reaction with 1,3-butadiene and its deuterated isotopologues.

The reactions between the phenyl radical (C(6)H(5)) and 1,3-butadiene (CH(2)CHCHCH(2)) together with its D6- and D4-isotopologues were studied under single collision conditions. The scattering data suggest that the reaction proceeds via indirect scattering dynamics and is initiated by an addition of the phenyl radical to the terminal carbon atom of the 1,3-butadiene molecule to form a C(6)H(5)C...

Reaction dynamics of the 4-methylphenyl radical (p-tolyl) with 1,2-butadiene (1-methylallene): are methyl groups purely spectators?

The reactions of the 4-tolyl radical (C6H4CH3) and of the D7-4-tolyl radical (C6D4CD3) with 1,2-butadiene (C4H6) have been probed in crossed molecular beams under single collision conditions at a collision energy of about 54 kJ mol(-1) and studied theoretically using ab initio G3(MP2,CC)//B3LYP/6-311G** and statistical RRKM calculations. The results show that the reaction proceeds via indirect ...

A VUV photoionization study of the multichannel reaction of phenyl radicals with 1,3-butadiene under combustion relevant conditions.

We studied the reaction of phenyl radicals (C(6)H(5)) with 1,3-butadiene (H(2)CCHCHCH(2)) exploiting a high temperature chemical reactor under combustion-like conditions (300 Torr, 873 K). The reaction products were probed in a supersonic beam by utilizing VUV radiation from the Advanced Light Source and by recording the experimental PIE curves at mass-to-charge ratios of m/z = 130 (C(10)H(10)(...

A theoretical and experimental kinetic study of phenyl radical addition to butadiene

The reactions of phenyl radical (C6H5) are of growing technological and scientific interest. A better understanding of phenyl radical addition to unsaturated hydrocarbons is of great practical interest because it is believed to be an essential component in both soot and fullerene formation. In this study, the rate of phenyl radical addition to butadiene was measured, and the potential surface o...

Combined crossed molecular beam and ab initio investigation of the reaction of boron monoxide (BO; X(2)Σ(+)) with 1,3-butadiene (CH2CHCHCH2; X(1)Ag) and its deuterated counterparts.

The reactions of the boron monoxide ((11)BO; X(2)Σ(+)) radical with 1,3-butadiene (CH2CHCHCH2; X(1)Ag) and its partially deuterated counterparts, 1,3-butadiene-d2 (CH2CDCDCH2; X(1)Ag) and 1,3-butadiene-d4 (CD2CHCHCD2; X(1)Ag), were investigated under single collision conditions exploiting a crossed molecular beams machine. The experimental data were combined with the state-of-the-art ab initio ...
